Spring Into Action — What We've Been Up To

It's been a busy few months since our One Year in York City post, and we have a lot to catch you up on! When we look back at the goals we set back in February, we're proud to say we've been checking them off one by one.

The Second Sunday Market Has Launched!

One of our biggest goals was launching the Second Sunday on King outdoor market, and we did it! Our inaugural market on May 11th brought vendors and shoppers together right here at the corner of King and Queen Street. What started as a small lineup of 11 vendors along the King Street sidewalk has grown into a thriving market with nearly 30 vendors registered for our June 14th market. We've been blown away by the response from the vendor community and from shoppers — and we're just getting started. The market runs every Second Sunday from 9am–1pm through November, rain or shine. Come join us!

Our Gallery Is Thriving

Our upstairs Art Gallery has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. We've featured some incredibly talented regional artists in solo shows, with Final Friday gallery openings and Meet the Artist receptions on the following Saturday from 12–4pm. This month we're proud to present Driven to Abstraction, featuring the vibrant abstract landscapes of Maryland artist Joan Hart. Stop in during First Friday on June 5th from 12–9pm to experience her work in person — trust us, it's stunning.

Classes Are Going Strong

Stained glass classes continue to fill up through Eventbrite, and we love welcoming new students into our dedicated classroom space. There is nothing quite like watching someone cut and solder their first piece of glass and walk out the door holding a finished suncatcher they made with their own hands. If you've been thinking about trying a class, now is a great time — check our Eventbrite page for upcoming dates.

Make Music Day is Coming to The Glass Turtle Studio!

We are thrilled to announce that The Glass Turtle Studio has been approved as an official host site for Make Music in the City Day on Sunday, June 21st! Make Music Day is a free, worldwide celebration of music held every year on the summer solstice, and we are so excited to be bringing it to our corner of Royal Square. We already have several acts booked and can't wait to share more details as the day approaches. Mark your calendars, tell your friends, and come down to 118 E. King Street on June 21st for a day of live music, community, and creativity. Stay tuned to our social media for performer announcements!

Community First

Being part of Royal Square means being part of something bigger than ourselves. We've continued to participate in First Friday events, Sip & Stroll evenings, and city crawls. This month in celebration of Pride Month we're donating 100% of Pride sticker sales to the Rainbow Rose Center, York's own LGBTQIA+ resource center. We believe in this community and the people who make it special.

What's Coming Next

We have a full season of Second Sunday markets ahead, more gallery shows in the works, Make Music Day on June 21st, and we continue to look for ways to bring new experiences and new artists into our space. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for the latest updates, and as always — come see us at 118 E. King Street. Angus and Vaila will be happy to greet you.

Thursday 12–4 | Friday 12–7 (12–9 on First Friday) | Saturday 12–5 | Sunday 12–4
